Panama Dating: Where do you meet good girls in Panama?

Panama Dating: Where do you meet good girls in Panama?

Where do you meet good girls in Panama?  This is a question that has baffled me my since I have arrived here in Panama.   Going out to nightclubs to look for single females is frustrating;  Calle Uruguay is too clique-y and Casinos have too many “working girls”.  Plus when is the last time you heard someone meeting their soul mate while randomly grinding on strangers listening to Reggaeton?

To assist my fellow good guys here in Panama find good girls, I have compiled a list of best places to meet the elusive “nice girl”.  A nice girl is classified as someone who you would feel comfortable introducing to your mother:

1. Supermarkets.  Sounds strange, but supermarkets can be a single man’s best friend.  Your competition is low because few guys wonder to the grocery store, and the amount of nice single females is plentiful.  A wise man once told me “attack where the enemy is not” and the enemy (other competing males) is no where to be found in supermarkets.  In Panama City, I recommend going to the El Rey on Via Espana or Riba Smith in Bella Vista.  Stay away from Super 99 in Punta Pacifica or Costal Del Este because the shoppers there are a bit YeYe.  YeYe is usually synonymous with snobby.   Once inside, try heading towards the vegetables section and ask the first eligible looking female shopper for assistance.  You’re cooking a big dinner for friends and you need help picking out ____ (fill in the fruit or vegetable of your choice). This will get the conversation started.

*Warning* be prepared to buy said produce.

2. New York Bagel.  This quaint coffee shop off Via Argentina in El Cangrejo is Panama’s yuppi Mecca.  Numerous educated,  English speaking female frequent “The Bagel”.   For meeting good girls, stay away from the tables and head for the couches.  People congregated around the couches are typically glued to their computer screens. Try asking for the password or a bagel recommendation to break the ice.

3. Ancon Guild.  Theaters are great places to meet good girls in general, however, Ancon Guild is a gold mine.  It’s the only exclusively English speaking theater in Panama.  So right off the bat, potential girlfriend material is going to be sophisticated, well rounded, and speaks English.  Get there a bit early to hang around the large social area and cheap bar.

4. Pollo Asado.   Located right directly below an English Language Center, Pollo Asado is a great place to meet good girls.  The small Panamanian style restaurant offers cheap dishes and plenty of college students eager to learn English.  Striking up a conversation is easy and both the guys and girls are very down-to-earth, nice people and jump at the opportunity to practice English.  It is one of the City’s best kept secrets.

A lot of people suggest that good guys and good girls no longer exist —  Bah-humbug.  Panama is a great place to date both locals and foreigners, you just need to know where to look and exercise a little patience.

Whoa hold on, you mean there’s actually NICE guys knocking about here? I’ve been here more or less 5 years now and have found myself immersed 100% in the culture… as in the only guys I come across are macho Latino ‘awebaos’. I’ve given up – the whole attitude of Panamanian men does not work in any way for an independent girl. Perhaps we should start shipping in some eligible folk?

How about where to find nice men who want real women for good times AND conversation?

  4. Joshua Haarbrink on Mon, 28th Sep 2009 12:18 am

Eligible folk are a-plenty here! …although I tend to spend a lot of time in the jungle so exposure and opportunities to meet ‘n greet are limited. I’m sure it’s a bit different for single ladies here than for single men. I know most of the men are interested in local women, but what are the foreign women looking for? With as negative a stereotype as Panamanian men have developed, are American and European women looking for locals or imports?

    Dear Evan,
I came across your post by chance and I have to say that I find some of the statements quite amusing. I am a single mid 30′s attractive, financially independent panamanian woman, and I have to say that after living on my own for the last 8 years I have never ever met anyone in the frozen food aisle in the supermarket, if not gay men who ask me for the best recipe for parfaits. As for the Riba Smith and Rey comparison, I have to say that you have a better chance at the Riba Smith in Bella Vista given that they cater to the single community and you will find a lot of single ppel browing through the already prepared meals fridge. However I have to admit that I was quite surprised to hear, just as Sophia stated above that NICE guys to exist in Panama. I couldnt agree more with her on the AWEBAO quote, I myself gave up on the locals years ago and only date foreign guys, but unfortunately, these are less and less each day dating NICE girls, as they are going for the working girls in the CASINOS and if not for the colombians airheads. If you are telling me that there are indeed men who want to go out with a woman who has half a brain, likes pinas coladas and getting caught in the rain..please send them my way! Cheers E.

Maybe posting a response to this will be a good place to meet that special lady? I’m a mid 30′s athletic American, living and working in Panama. I drink, don’t smoke, still have hair, take pride in my appearance, and I’m not a fan of the street ladies.

so I am not in Panama yet, and won’t be there until october, but I will be spending 6 months there as an English Teacher. I am an African American man age 24. I am interested in strong educated natural and independent black women local Panamanian or foreign. Would I find a lot of that during my stay in this country, and if I do, do they even like Black American’s or is there a stigma about us abroad too?

  17. Evan Forbes on Wed, 14th Apr 2010 6:09 pm

Jordan, thanks for the reply. The answer to your question is yes and no. Yes, in certain parts of Panama exist a strong racial bias. This is according to my friends of African America heritage. This tends to be prevalent among the light skin “yea-yeas” (wealth Panamanians) or rural places that do not have a large “negro” population.

However, in Panama City there are many people from African decent. Places like Casco Viejo, Bella Vista, and other intercity locations. Also, Colon is predominately African.

Also, there are many international types living in Panama City. We are very open-minded (hence living abroad) and amongst us there is very little racial bigotry.

Suggestion on where to go out: In PTY, stick to Casco Viejo (bars like Relic and Mojitos) and Zona Viva. Stay away from Calle Uruguay.

    Good Luck,

I just wrote about a new restaurant in Coronado that is geared to singles, especially North Americans. It is called Madame Blanche Roadhouse – great music (Eagles, CCR, Janis Joplin, The Stones) Great food and gereat service. It is where the old Twisters used to be – between Cochez and the new Coronado Mall. Best buerger that I have had in Panama. (And the music is not so loud you can’t talk). Roberto

Nice girls in supermarket?? How do you know that a girl you see in a supermarket is nice? Has a sign on her telling she’s nice? Let me tell you a story. I’m a single guy, over 50, so not the type or age the American women look for. I am going to Bodeguita almost every night, not for the girls (I can’t afford them) but because I know the owner and everybody else over there, plus many Americans come there so I have someone to talk to. Sometimes I struck a conversation with a girl, but this is to improve my Spanish. One day I was in Rey and I saw a very attractive woman. I looked at her, she looked at me and she was looking very familiar. So I asked her, do we know each other? She smiles, and said, yes, from Bodeguita. So you see Evan, working girls eat and cook and do shopping in supermarket like everybody else. And I can give you many other examples of so called nice girls who are working girls in the weekend. Regarding American women in Panama? Well, no offense girls, but all the American men I know here, don’t want an American woman. I don’t want to go into details, but mostly complain that American women want to be the boss, the man in a relationship, and they are not as affectionate and tender as Latinas. And many other reason.

    Fascinating lecture this ‘forum’.

I really don’t have anything against well educated, intelligent, single, multi-lingual, tall (6ft/1.8m+) Panamenian (or foreign) gentleman. But I’m really starting to think they don’t exsist in this country.

I really don’t want to give up just yet. Although by reading above mentioned comments I’ll pretty much have to conclude:

    Girls, we’re screwed!

Went to Argentina last year. It also is a macho country. I am a single male from the laid back CALIFORNIA, USA. I stay in shape and have a live and let live happy attitude. I liked Argentina. I have always believed in respecting others and good will happen to you. It is not what others do, it is what I do that matters. I had no problem meeting nice women in Argentina. People can see if a person is a nice person or not without me saying anything. They can tell by the actions.
I may come to Panama later this year but not quite sure yet.
If anyone wants to contact me, e-mail

I’m not in agree with so many comments somebody has made here in this forum.
Here in Panama are still some nice guys and girls. Intelligent, well educated and nice people to talk with.
But there is also something everybody have to understand, Panamenian culture is not the most friendly culture in the world, they become so nice after years of knowing them.
I have to recognize that is not an easy job to talk to any girl in this country and harder if your target is a Panamenian girl, but there are always people from so many countries in Panama, for different reasons and they want to make a new social life.
I’d like to meet people from many countries here in Panama, As a Foreign allien here, it hasn’t been easy for me to have girls friends out of my work place to go out and hang out with. so if any girl around is interested in meeting a latin young guy, just e-mail me

  47. Panamanian on Tue, 16th Nov 2010 7:44 pm

Hi!! I have been reading all your posts, and every one of them is very interesting in its own way.

I have to say, clubs, bars, casinos or pubs, is not the best place to meet a nice girl, particulary if you are here looking for a serious relationship with a good girl, added that the weekend working girls have the same posibilities to visit “good places” as supermarkets, for that reason, I highly recommend take special attention to the way of walk, gestures, how she does look (I mean what kind of clothes is wearing), the way she speaks… or with a simple question (if you really are a smart guy) you can tell what kind of girl you are talking with.

I am in my late 20′s, single, and the way a smart, well educated, and worker girl acts, is way too different from the girls with an easy way of living. You just need to be an open-eye person and take your time to meet people (here are several types of) You’ll meet all kind of people but at the end of the day, you are the only one who can pick the good ones, to be friends, couple or something else (depends on what are you looking for, obviuosly).

I enjoy making friends from all over the world, that give you an open mind, and huge and new horizons, A different way to see LIFE! And like me, there are Panamian girls with brain and good attitude.

keep safe and enjoy Panama! Welcome you’ll!!!

so it’s off to the supermarket and wait to get picked up? hehehe, kinda weird but ok Evan

  57. Lilly on Mon, 31st Jan 2011 11:06 am

I find this whole conversation too funny. I am not “in the market” so these are observations of an observer only. “Nice Panamanian girls????” OMG. You might be able to find them in church–maybe. The girls I see–on the street, in the supermarket, on the arms of old gringos–are semi-pro hookers. I can’t tell you how sick I am of watching some barely legal girl with a half gringo baby tottering around on her new stilettos with her feeble hubby limping behind her. I don’t see a lot of younger gringos with Pana-ho girls on their arm for the simple reason that they can probably do a bit better than that. I mean a good-looking thirty something guy might actually yearn for a conversation that goes beyond what kind of cell phone you want to buy. He might actually desire something to eat that moves past chicken and platanos. He might consider painted on jeans and skin tight top not quite what he’d like to bring home to mama. It would be hard for me, were I a single male, to take this kind of girl seriously. I have two eligible young sons and I do not encourage them to spend a lot of time with me here in Panama. Getting knocked up by ole blue eyes is way too easy.

  58. Lee on Wed, 2nd Feb 2011 8:33 pm

I have read the whole discussion, and I can see the picture pretty clearly. As an American man I will fill you in on the particulars. American women are all but worthless. They want to usually be the “boss”. They are very independent and cold; making very poor sexual companions. They are also very disloyal; generally cheating on their men. The U.S. is probably the only country in the world where a woman can take a man for all he’s worth; his money, house, car, and children. Plus over 40% them are fat and ugly. And many men who could only see the truth, would be appalled at how many American girls start “working” right out of high school. There are literally millions of hookers in the U.S. And if you folks want to complain about “arrogant” Panamanian girls, just look at the ocean of stuck-up, trashy, American women there are. Any place in the world is better than the States when it comes to finding a good woman. I may move to Panama in the near future, but as far as seeing how friendly the girls are; I couldn’t care less. I will come to Panama to escape the troubled times here in the U.S., not to find that someone special. I am too independent and open-minded than to “hope” to find my soulmate. In the long run, I will probobly settle for Asia, as the women out there are much more down-to-earth than the women in the Western hemisphere. As for the women of Argentina, I must say there are many great accounts of how good a man would have it there; American men especially. By the way, this attitude of mine is no reflection on Panamanian women. They are probably quite nice. But a word to American women traveling down there: Stay away from me. Go back to the States and screw around with your husband, boyfriend, fiance, ad infinitum. And now you wonder why you American women aren’t wanted. It’s easy to see. Just for the record, I am pro womens’ rights, and yes I happen to just LOVE real women. But I won’t toerate any more fakes or feminists. Thank you.

I agree with Lee. I have been visiting friends in California for nearly 14 years and during the whole time, I see women who are constantly eating (obviously lacking in self-control) and coming to the conclusion that men want girls who have a figure that resembles a beer barrel. American women are also very self oppinionated and mouthy.

I am in the process of moving to Panama and the women I have spoken to there are pleasant, have beautiful smiles, many look after their figure realising that there are always lots of pebbles on the beach with good figures, so they ensure that they keep their nice fugure that they had when they were courting their husband to be. They are also respectful of their husbands and the marital arrangement. They are, in my eyes at least, worth their weight in gold!

So, American women, a bit of advice, Stop eating like a horse, stop stuffing your face with food and loads of cakes, eat until your hunger has been satisfied and tell your fat husbands to do the same. Don’t believe all that utter garbage that Americans are overweight because it is the diet. That is utter rubbish! You are overweight because you all eat too much and live on crappy MacDonalds and big beef burgers. Come on, get your act together. There are girls in the USA who fight to keep their figure and there are girls in the USA who make nice lifelong marriage partners, but sadly, they are in the majority.

The next time you sit down to stuff a huge cake in your mouth, think about this post.

Froma slim 59yr old Englishman who eats just enouth to satisfy his hunger NOT STRETCH HIS BELLY SO IT LOOKS LIKE A BARRAGE BALLOON THAT WOULD LOOK MORE AT HOME OVER THE STREETS OF LONDON DURING WWII!!!!!

Error in my last posting. Part of the last sentence in the next to last paragraph should have read,” but sadly, they are in the minority.” rather than “but sadly, they are in the majority.

    Please change mistake.

An American friend of mine is dating an attractive 18 year old Panamanian… He likes her a lot, although he regrets not being able to introduce her to his old mother back home the the USA. I suspect he is a little ashamed of her ever-so-sexy attitude, her always wearing extra short skirts and her always showing off her huge tits. On the upside he has a lot of fun, while we, older men, are stuck with our mature overweight US wifes. Obviously, I envy the lucky bastard with his young Panamanian beauty and wonder whether the upside doesn’t offset the downside metioned earlier (LOL).

@Jordan – Did you find a job out there yet young brother??
I have been wanting to move to Panama for since 2009. I get to go for the first time Monday and I’m hoping to find a job and a place to stay during my so that I can fulfill my dream. But what would be the icing on the cake for me would be to run into that woman that makes me move asap! I’m going to Bocas Del Toro which I understand has more of an Afro-Carribean influence than the city as a whole. I love a beautiful Black woman. My first wife was from Jamaica. I got to travel all through Europe and the Middle East and appreciate the variety of black women the world has to offer. Can’t wait!!

So I just moved back to the States from Panama…..I lived there for the entire 2011….and just saw that Ereele had asked me if I ever found a job. I did, I was working at a place called Berlitz on calle 47 en el corregimiento de marbella. It was an interesting journey. I became 100% immersed in the culture, now that I am back and have learned spansih all the dominicans and puerto ricans here in NY tell me that I speak like a Panamanian, because there is a slight caribbean twinge in the spanish. I met a woman, but I had a lot of problems with finding black women.. they wall wanted to mejorar la raza….that phrase pissed me the hell off.. anyway I got with a beautiful 43 year old woman, jaja a cougar…roba cuna! she treated me like a king, and her sex drive was unbelievable.. can’t wait to go back in May!!!

Hey, I’m an Australian woman and I lived in Panama for a year in my early twenties; I found the beaches to be the best place to meet nice, non-machismo Panameno guys, Pedasi and Playa Venao in particular. The surf culture was alot more relaxing, and chilled out than in the cities, where the men just came on too strong. Surfers are relaxed sweethearts, with fit bodies too! Ask one to teach you how to surf, and just smoke on the beach together. I had alot of very great dates like that :D

woumen in Panama, stay away from him.
To the girls of Panama, just by reading comments posted.
Any man who is respectful toward girls in they own environment, will be appreciated to the extend of they
    unintellectual forthcoming.

I have been reading all your posts, and every one of them is very interesting in its own way.
I have to say, clubs, bars, casinos or pubs, is not the best place to meet a nice girl, particulary if you are here looking for a serious relationship with a good girl.

I am a really nice Panamanian woman in Panama city, I am in my mid-30’s and I am interested in meeting an inteligent man, who are looking for stable life to share with some one. I will like to start out as simply being friends, and who knows. If you would like to know a little more, and you are a single guy, please drop me a note at !:
