Relic- The New Top Party Spot in Panama

Relic- The New Top Party Spot in Panama

Finally a chill bar to go hang out at in Panama City! Relic is unique because it simply and tastefully delivers on all fronts. It mixes a good location with a pleasant ambience. It plays eclectic music at appropriate decibel levels and has proper mood lighting. It offers just the right amount of space to socialize and serves a variety of drinks at reasonable prices. Most bars, clubs and casinos in Panama City do a few things right, but can never quite get it all together in one shot. The prices may be OK, but it’s too loud, or they have a weak alcohol selection. Others charge too much and restrict their clientele demographic. Relic aims to please the masses, and please it does.

In the everyday-more-trendy neighborhood of Casco Viejo, Relic occupies the basement and courtyard area of Luna’s Castle hostel. Entering from the street and descending a spiral staircase brings you to the dimly lit and A/C cooled bar area. Antique-inspired lamps, original exposed-stone walls and natural driftwood tables and stools create a dark yet comfortable feel. Asymmetrical mirrors coupled with a glass liquor display behind the long and high bar top add a sophisticated look. Two glass doors open up to a wide courtyard filled with sculptures, plants, tables and benches, letting you breathe fresh air, visit with friends and enjoy the starry night sky.

The best place to go in Panama City period. Tons of people, both locals and international types, there is no cover and beers are $2.

If you go, you will see me.

Great bar to hang out with good prices for drinks. The crowd is a mix of internationals and locals, the vibe is relaxed and everyone is seeking a good time. Don’t be surprised if you can’t recall all names of people you met in this place!

Relic is the type of place where three types of people hang out- !. gringo tourists 2. gringo expats who aren’t comfortable with the local culture and 3. a few Panamanians who want to meet gringos. I saw more gringos and backpacker types there than anywhere else in Panama (and that’s saying something)- it was easily 80-90% gringos each night. No energy at all in the place and I found it dull. Why on Earth would you travel or move all the way to Panama to hang out with a bunch of douches from your home country?? No need to travel to Panama to experience Relic- just stay home!

I spent four years in Panama and my last two months were spent religiously at Relic on Friday and Saturday nights, once they had opened up. Some of my best nights were there, lost in the eyes of one particular guapita or discussing ways to alleviate poverty in the Panamanian countryside. Very diverse mix of people; backpackers, extranero movers and shakers, and lovely bi-lingual Panamanian girls (did I mention how lovely they are). If you come through Panama City, do no miss this place!

I’m sold! Went for the first time last night and was rather pleased with the atmosphere. Beautiful and friendly people from all over the world, low-key vibes, good drinks…top spot in the city so far!
